Electronic devices may only be used in class with teacher permission. Cell phones are to be turned off or placed on silent mode during class time. A student using a phone during class time, whether in the classroom or outside of the classroom, without teacher permission, will have their phone secured by school staff.

Consequences for violation of this policy are as follows, and are in effect for the entire year (not per semester):

1st offense: cell phone is taken and given to assistant principal secretary; cell phone is released to student at the end of the day.
2nd offense: cell phone is taken and given to assistant principal secretary; student’s parents are notified; cell phone will be released to student at the end of the day.
3rd offense: cell phone is taken and given to assistant principal; student’s parents are notified; cell phone is released to parents.
4th offense: student will be suspended from school for 2 days.

Additional consequences will occur for a student who not only violates the policy, but also uses the phone in such a way that breaks other school rules.

Empire High School is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of these items. These items tend to be items of high demand and are easily lost or stolen.
