Boys Basketball (Winter)
Head Coach: Chad Smith
Empire High School is excited to introduce a familiar face as its new Head Boys Basketball Coach, Matt Tanner. Coach Tanner will be taking over the Boys Basketball program next year; however, he has extensive knowledge of the program as he has served as an assistant coach since 2023.
As a proud former and current Empire Raven parent, he has supported his children, Emilee, Rebecca, and Cameron, in their educational and athletic journeys at Empire High School. He has also served as the Old Vail Middle School Boys & Girls Basketball Coach from 2020 to 2022, led in various facets in the Southeast Trojans Youth Football and Cheer Organization from 2018 to 2022, and served as a Blaze Youth Basketball Coach from 2016 to 2022.
Matt is dedicated to fostering character development and prioritizing student growth before athletic performance. Beyond his professional commitments, he is a devoted husband to Delora and family of 5.
